TEIN2 Partners

TEIN2 is targeted at the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) partners, who are represented in TEIN2 by organisations with expertise in the field of research and education networking.

The European partners (which comprise the Member States of the European Union) are represented by the research networks of France (RENATER), the Netherlands (SURFnet) and the United Kingdom (UKERNA).

The Asia-Pacific partners are Australia, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The representatives are participating in the TEIN2 project as members of the TEIN2 Technical Committee, to ensure that the views and needs of the ASEM countries that stand to benefit most from the network are represented in the development of the project. In addition, the representatives have the important role of ensuring that the organisations and the governments they represent are kept informed of the progress of TEIN2, and acting as the national interface for obtaining support for TEIN2 as needed.

TEIN2 has had a significant effect on national research and education in the "beneficiary" countries - those countries that are eligible for EC funding. Several partner countries have launched, re-launched or substantially developed their national networks in order to take advantage of TEIN2’s connectivity.

TEIN2 also connects non-beneficiary partners, who are participating at their own cost. These partners are bearing additional cost burdens or donating connectivity and operational support which ensure the network is high capacity and resilient. A number of other countries are interested in joining, which will expand Asian coverage.
